Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) achieved significant success in the results of the Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026 announced by Times Higher Education (THE), one of the most prestigious rating organizations in the international higher education field. Our university has succeeded in being among the top 400 universities worldwide in 5 SDG categories by receiving recognition for its work related to sustainable development goals (SDG).
MAKÜ; End Hunger, Affordable and Clean Energy, Clean Water and Sanitation, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Responsible Consumption and Production, Life Below Water, and Life on Land demonstrated its sustainability performance strongly on an international scale with the degrees it obtained in these areas. This success shows that our university conducts its environmental sensitivity, social contribution, sustainable campus, research capacity, and human-centered development approach with a holistic understanding.
In the overall ranking of THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, MAKÜ made a remarkable rise by being in the 601–800 band worldwide. Our university, which was in the 1501+ band last year, has shown that it significantly strengthened its performance in sustainability on an international scale with the results announced this year. This rise has become an important indicator that enhances MAKÜ's global visibility, supports its institutional development journey, and makes its contribution to sustainable development goals more visible.
Another strong indicator of our university's success is its inclusion in the ranking of all 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. MAKÜ, which was ranked in 5 SDGs in 2024 and 9 SDGs in 2025, has carried its sustainability efforts to a broader and more inclusive level by being included in all 17 SDG targets in 2026.
In the results for 2026, MAKÜ was also included in the ranking for the first time in the titles of End Poverty, End Hunger, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Reduced Inequalities, Climate Action, Life Below Water, and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. This situation demonstrates that the studies conducted at our university are implemented with a multifaceted sustainability approach covering fundamental areas such as humanity, welfare, environment, peace, and partnership.
In his evaluation regarding the subject, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar stated that Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University has reached a different threshold, and the success achieved is the result of the collective effort and institutional ownership carried out throughout the university. Rector Dalgar expressed, “Since we took office, we have made significant progress towards the ideal of being a world university that we will be proud to be a part of.” He thanked all the coordinators, academic and administrative units that contributed directly or indirectly to the process, and all the academics who directly contributed to this success, stating that MAKÜ will continue to progress towards stronger goals in sustainability, social contribution, and internationalization.
The results of THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026 not only make MAKÜ's work compatible with sustainable development goals visible on a global scale but also strongly support our university's development vision that extends from “universal knowledge to social contribution.”
